How many times should your tank be ran through completely when using a sump in an hour? I have heard 5-7 times in an hour. Does this seem about right?

The flow should be 5 to 10 times the sump's volume.

Thanks. I will have 70x overflow. Using 3 Hydor Koralia Evolution 1050's & an Eheim 1250 or 1260 return pump.

Talking sump, not total DT flow.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Tank turn over ids tank volume 5-10x through the sump per hour. Tank flow rate within the tank with powerheads is different.

There really is no reason to cycle your tank so many times per hour through your sump. All you need to do is supply raw water for your skimmer. Most properly sized skimmers do not get 5x tank volume per hour. Then there is a fuge to supply too if you have one. 10x actual fuge volume for a rule of thumb. Anything over that is really just moving water for no reason.

OH, I wasn't sure. My bad. :( That was my total for DT and Sump. with the Eheim 1260 I will have 635gph for 55g tank. Turnover is about 11x

The powerheads will be 3100gph flow rate in the DT. Will this be too much flow through DT?

:D lol. But is that too much flow in the DT? It would be 3100gph with 3 evo 1050's. With 3 evo 750's it would be 2250gph through the DT. Can koralia evo's be
"dialed down" to lower flow? on individ. powerheads? Or do I need a controller for that?
