    I'm not sure what would have caused it to start gaping, but after that, one of the whelks likely found the opening, and that led to a small wound, which the others could then smell...

    Yeah, it's like chum in the water at that point.

    BTW, most whelks are predatory. I won't keep any in my tanks due to that issue. who knows what they want to eat that day?


    You could have kept a derasa under probably 1 39w t5ho bulb, they don't need a lot of light.

    I think I got all of them out. The Derasa ended up serving as expensive bait in that regard. I got 10 of them out of the tank, and haven't seen one wandering around since.

    They were yet another of the evil hitchhikers on my LR. I'm seriously pissed about having LR with every hitchhiker imaginable throwing a wrench in every single thing I've done in the tank.

    I'm currently looking for a mantis that'll eat the crabs. That's how you know things have gotten bad in a tank.
