That's a good idea. I hope to be getting a bigger tank soon and might have to use something like this

And just as a disclaimer- I too recommend drilling a non drilled on non RR tank!

Often times however, I've seen people just use the drilled hole as the skimmer, even on large tanks!

If my next tank (my next tank?) is not drilled of RR, I'm going to drill the bottom, and plumb it to a sealed device like my 'intank overflow'. That way I'll have an OF like a RR tank- or even 2 of them.

The beauty of this would be not having to rely on a 'siphon' at all.

I feel safe however with my DT 'high level cut off' so that IF my siphon ever did fail (again- hasn't in over a year), that my Family Room carpet would still be safe. My sump would empty at least 15-20 gallons into my tank IF it ever failed to siphon.

Here's the fhread and device I used, for me- good insurance!

Thanks Scuba Ken- on a side not, I used to Scuba dive alot also.

I simply integrated what I felt were the best features of various designs, and improved on them.

I would nave needed 2 box style OF boxes. Instead of spending anywhere from ~ 200 + bucks, I designed and built something that performs better than those, for like less than $25.

Sweet, yes, I love my diving, I just got back from Egypt last week, and head out to Austrailia, Tahiti, and Hawaii for April next year !
I will dive until I can no longer breathe, my tank is going t bridge the gap between dives.......... One day, anyway :)

** I added some media bags to the shelf near the top of my intank overflow, where the coarse sponges are in the pic and video.

One bag has some Phoguard, and one has some GAC.

MAN IS THIS QUIET NOW!! And give much better potential othan simply coarse sponges in keeping my Mixed reef happy!

I've been looking at doing one of this myself and I think you convince me on doing it. My only problem is that I do not have as much space as you do but I ting I can make it work with two smaller version. What do you think it'll be best for my 60 gal cube?
