    food => poop => ammonia => nitrite => nitrate

    Doesn't matter if the food is getting eaten. Anything you put in is going to get converted to nitrate. Cut down the food and you'll reduce your nitrate level. I feed half a cube a day and a small piece of seaweed every other day.

    I use chaeto in my fuge and illuminate it with a 6500K spiral CF.

    Have you measured the TDS of your RO water?
