Nitrate High for 4 days !!!!!!!!!!!

I would return the puffer. It's gonna out grow a bio cube rather quickly

 

+1 to both of these ..Mappas need huge systems..Mines in a 280 and I'll need to upgrade ..

 

Yes i do not believe your puffer is constipated or that the nitrates are too high.
(mine right now are over 100)
The tank is simply too small and the fist is stressed.
no amount of rock will be able to process the waste produced by the puffer in a 14G tank

I know this is crappy news, but don't beat yourself up. I believe your Fish store mislead you a bit

 

I would go buy an all in one bacteria mix like bio spira to get your tank going since you already are this far. Usually you can add a fish right away with some of these products if its cycled rock. You should always cycle first but being were you are I would give it a shot. Puffer is definitely going to grow pretty fast you might want to return him and stick to some smaller fish.

+1 to everything stated above, I will add that any LFS that leads you astray in selling you too big a fish in too new a tank would not longer be my LFS. Just my .02

 

Thanks guys..I appreciate it. It sucks because I hate feeling like I was taken for a ride. I will see if the store will take him back.

 

Good decision. There are only a few LFS out there that will tell you not to buy something. And if you are like me, you probably don't want to hear it. Hers an example of a site that can give you a quick run down of an animal you are interested in.
