In the long run a sump is easier to maintain, you don't have to go all crazy like some of us do

    Looking good.

FOWLR= Fish only with live rock.

You'll get the hang of it and be talking like a reefer in no time.

Lets talk skimmers.... i was condering this one. Hydor USA SlimSkim Interal Skimmer for Mini Aquariuma and Mini Reefs
    Any thoughts on that?
I want to get a solid base of FOWLR before i move onto corals and such because, they too, intimidate me

It seems like that skimmer must be installed in the aquarium, usually more desirable for in sump. You may want to look into a HOB (Hang on back) skimmer like the Reef Octopus Classic 100 HOB Protein Skimmer. If you go to marinedepot or bulk reef supply they have pretty decent selections. I just remember with my first tank I got tired of seeing the hob equipment so I know i would have disliked seeing the entire skimmer in the tank.

    Understandable.
Now, as for sizes for the protien skimmer, i've read that it is imporant to get the proper size and that if its too big it doesn't do its job properly.
The Reef Octopus Classic 100 HOB Protein Skimmer... is for up to 105 gallons, my tank is only 36g.... should i get one that is smaller?

Most will say to get one that is twice your tank size. It will also allow you to upgrade if you choose to. Higher rating will allow you to have a bigger bioload. Now one that is rated 150+ would be too big for you at this point. I have a 55g and my skimmer is rated for 150.

It's also total water volume so if you have a sump you want to take that in consideration. I agree with the above go larger so you can upgrade! My skimmer is rated for up to 300 gallons and I have about 200 total gallons.
