I have a trumpet with about 30 heads and during the day it is fully "puffed" out when the actinics go on it begins to shrink and send out feeder tentacles. they get food from the light during the day and grab food in the water column at night. That is the reason for them puffing out day shrinking at night, perfectly normal.

my trumpet is puffing up during the day, and also sends out the tentacles at night. so it seems its doing fine.

+1 I use a syringe a small piece of airline tubing and then a long piece of rigid airline tubing.

I also spot feed a lot of my LPS crab pellets and raw shrimp, they seem to like it.
