I need to figure out a way to hang the LED fixture. I don't know if there's a stud running right over the tank or not and its an old house so they aren't every 16 either. Stud find didn't work last time I tried because of the plaster either.

How about using decorative shelving supports and attaching them to the wall?

Along with what 2in10 said...guess and check? That's what I would do. Haha. If the screw just pushes through...well you didn't hit a stud. Lol.

I think I am going to have to go into the attic find the joists and attach a board to the ceiling then attach the light to that. The fun part will be trying to find the joist and transferring that knowledge to my living room lol.

Went to the attic couldn't easily spot any joists...So I have hit a wall...or ceiling rather. I can't finish the plumbing till I can have a sure way to hang the light because because I need pieces of the plumbing from my current tank. I can plumb the return line but not the closed loop. Also gotta run a line for an outlet and make a hole for my top off water and for my water change container. Best way to protect the hose running through the wall and to make it look semi nice?

The hose..is it pvc? Usually that's the only way plumbing is run through walls.

For the electrical wires, you would normally use conduit in a public building, but I'm not sure if they do that in private housing.

For sheet rock you could rill a hole and use wing nuts to hold it up there rather than just a screw. The wing nut will not come back out.

Not a wing nut...I forget the name! lol. :(
