A.G.E. is the manufacturer, its Acrylic and Glass Exhibits Acrylic and Glass Exhibits

The tank is made of 1/2" starphire on the front and sides, the back is 1/2" float glass, with a 1/2" acrylic exterior overflow. The bottom of the tank is AGE's signature 1" Schedule 80 PVC.

Thanks everyone for the great comments.:cheesy:

Here are a few more shots...

acrylic does not bond to glass, did you get a warranty for the tank and livestock along with flood insurance?

even after the algae is gone the cheato will still be alive.

    why vodka and pb?

    what is uln?

what are your parameters? i.e. Ca,Mg,dKH,Sr,K

with those t5's, what is the par on the sand and rock work?

After seeing that picture, I'm thinking that it's a coral that has been given the name "sand dollar?"

You've got some beautiful corals in that tank. Can't wait to see growth shots as they get bigger!

I looked at the vendor's website on the link provided by the OP. Judging by the amount of money the company has invested in CNC, and the high cost of goods sold, I'd venture a guess that A.G.E. has overcome this issue somehow.

I just can't imagine that they're selling tanks with acrylic and glass in the same product without the knowledge that you can't bond one to the other. :-/

the two materials might stop water from escaping at the time being but past practice has shown connecting glass to acrylic will fail. in regards to the tank im building, the question came up regarding the above, and the answer was a solid no which also included heat sealing the two different materials together. acrylic to acrylic produces a bond on the molecular level. bonding colored acrylic has its faults due to the dye used in the acrylic and requires a much stronger chemical to produce a bond. glass to glass covers the edges with a silicone seal preventing the water from escaping, if that seal is jeopardized the water will escape. having a 3/4" glass bottom would have been a better choice.

starphire glass is weaker than regular glass due to the lack of iron in the material and will fail from the pressure the water exerts on the walls of the aquarium. to make starphire strong enough to handle that pressure, it should be tempered.

    EDIT: thanks to bogie
