Made a major change. Along with going barebottom, I removed the ATI Powermodule and replaced it with a Sfiligoi Dual 400W pendant. I got an array of bulbs from 10K to 20K, and will take a look at how different combos look. Hung the light last night....

That is one 20K XM bulb...I must admit, I forgot how good the tank looks with metal halide. I even turned on the second bulb later on, and never heard my chiller go off. I'm probably going to eventually run this from 7pm until 1 am, and from 8-10, I will run both 400W bulbs together.

Looks like I need to do a little siphoning

Light with 12K Reeflux and 20K XM, might just do dual 20K XM's

With both bulbs fired the tank looks a little yellow, I'm going to have to play with the other bulbs I have

should have mounted this on a flat surface, it has grown around this branch rock, and the shade side is very lame

How do you like the bare bottom???

I must say it looks great without substrate.

What was your main reason for going bare bottom?

Thanks guys....the main reason for going bare bottom was because I felt it became more of a problem than it was worth. I felt that it help trap detruis, and added to any po4's and nitrates I may have. I really let my tank go for 2 months, and I had terrible cyano problem. I ended up removing the sandbed, taking the rocks out, and swishing them to remove any loose organics. I also removed 6 fish, to reduce my bioload. I looked at my tank, and thought that having all those fish didnt look natural at all. Having the sand was for pure aesthetics, because in fact they do trap organics, even though you have biological filtration with sand, to me the pluses didn't add up. With the amount of flow I have, I didn't really need it.

Immediate impact those three changes had on my tank. I went from this

to this on Aug 13th, a day after I removed the sand

And after two weeks without sand, as well as removing my fish...plus the cleaning of my rock we have this

Seeing great improvement in my colors too
