The new Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Exhibit opened today at the Waikiki Aquarium featuring a 4,400 gallon reef aquarium containing rare coral and fish from the remote islands in Northwestern Hawaii. These islands are too small for human habitation and contain many pristine reefs that are part of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, one of the largest marine reserves around. The display tank contains Hawaiian Morwong fish, Japanese and Masked Angelfish. Corals include Acropora cytherea and Pocillopora cf. damicornis. Let's go!

Been waiting for this to open. I had a heads up a while back as one of the scientists that helped do come collecting at the time was working on a side project for me :)

    Alright guys, here's the plan:

    1) Go to Hawaii
    2) Bring Glass of Wine... and some juice for your kids.
    3) Visit Waikiki Aquarium
    4) Try to keep awe-struck mouth closed while observing amazing fish and corals
    5) Resist from asking aquarium workers if you can buy observed fish and corals
    6) Go swimming with fishes in the warm tropical Hawaiian waters
