so it's got to be a reflection of something, because when i turn the lights off, it's not there

i think the alien will outgrow your tank pretty fast... you should return it IMO lol

** i see it... well, i remember from physics that just about any object reflects light, thus the colors you can see. what i think is, there could be no sand in that particular spot, and when the light hits, it bounces back and thats why its blue. it can also be an air bubble catching the light and reflecting it back.
another idea is, sometimes, rock have this crystal looking thing on them, like a big grain of salt. that would definitely reflect light. oh and another idea.. try putting your self right in front of it and pass your hand in front of the hole, if its a reflection it should go away, and you might be able to trace it.

lol yea i agree, my tank would be to small to keep an ailen

air bubble is possible, even though it's flat and not even a full circle and hanging on the edge of something.

    updated my answer...

i usually cant go by without seeing the source of the light, so what i usually do is.. i step right in front of the mysterious light... then i move my hands around to see if i see a shadow or if it disappears. if it doesnt, i stick my hand in the tank, and start moving it around where the light is, until it disappears, then i see where my hand is... usually i can see exactly how the reflection is there.

the air bubble would be flat though if it is trapped and pressed against the rock i would think.
