It is a dry heat, yeah right !

Correct in any issues in water chemistry ie: high nitrates.
Correct any dietary issues: I would get selcon and try other algae.
    Correct any stressors: Bullying.........

Correcting chemistry issues and dietary issues as well as cutting back on the amount of carbon should make a difference in the long run if the fish survives.

If you know you have stray voltage, why wouldn't you alleviate the issue? Just out of curiosity. This can't be comfortable to fish. BTW your grounding probe just creates a path for the electricity. It doesn't protect the fish from it's effects. Just sayin. Maybe if you keep this thread alive long enough, you will get the answer you want rather than the correct one.

There are an overwhelming majority of reefers who do believe HLLE is a direct result of stray voltage in an aquarium. It makes sense to me but hey.......who am I?

I haven't replaced the pump because I don't have the money right now.
I plan on doing it, but can't afford it right now.

Well, I'm sorry to say that he didn't make it.

I woke this morning to him struggling to swim around and stay upright.
He kept getting suck against the over flow or the wavemaker pump intakes.

Thanks for all the answers though.

Sorry about that. I took several fish, back when I worked at an LFS home to recover. I took a purple tang that had the worst HLLE I have ever seen and had it completely healed within 2 months. The tank it came from had a bit of stray voltage and every since then, I have been a believe that this can cause issues.

sorry for you loss :( He was a very pretty fish. I guess I would agree with Daniel in that I can't think that any stray voltage in a tank can be a positive thing for fish. Hopefully you can afford a new pump soon.

    Thanks everyone for the comments.
Trying to choose between wants and needs is tough, especially since I have spare money very infrequently.

I was saving up towards new LED lights, but just had to use the money to pay the mortgage.
