I think releasing him will be as rewarding as having him thrive in your tank and because that is uncertain. The release should be fun. Make a picnick out of it.

    Just a thought

Well I didn't have a picnic, but it was fun.
Yesterday I was home early from work so I fished him out without too much fight and got him in a plastic pint glass with some sand and water.

Drove him down to the local beach and acclimated him. After a while he was swimming around in the cup and seemed ready to me. So I walked a few feet in the water and released him and watched him swim down to the bottom.

I'll miss him. He was a character. But it didn't seem right keeping him in my water with high pH. Maybe another time. Until then, later little guy!! :)

Well, karma to you for releasing him, Matt!! I don't think he would have lived very long in your set up; and I would have hated to watch him slowly starve to death. You did the right thing, Bud!!! ;D

    Thanks man!
I almost couldn't bring myself to do it, because I liked him so much, but I think it was the right thing to do with the pH so high. Especially now because I put some more DIY rock in yesterday which will probably keep the pH up for a while until I do more water changes.
