Have you thought about throwing an air bubbler under it?

The 660nm leds will grow stupid amounts of algae.

I like it... easy and grows algae like any other ATS.

Hopefully Cree or Phillips comes out with a 680 nm LED. 660 nm isn't quite centred on that chlorophyll absorption peak, although clearly still grows algae quite well.

I haven't but am seeing a good amount of growth on the underside.Really shocked me until I figured out why. These leds are STRONG.See below.

    Impressive.

Sorry for the delay in responding.Somehow I missed it.

After a few months using this reefbreeders
I have to say I am quite impressed by the growth. However I have noticed a perfectly round area directly in the center of my ATS screen were only Cyano will grow. I am attributing this to the light being too intense at a distance of 8" above the water. This is actually good news for me as it allows me to move the led up out of the way giving me complete access again to my sump and also making the screen easier to remove. I have done 3 20 gallon wc's to the tank in 8 months and while I have small batches of cyano lingering a more aggressive cleaning schedule on the screen will wipe it out in days.(been busy selling my house :() I have not run any type of chemical filtration in the tank for 8 months now.

    Santa Monica,

on a thread dated 1/6/2010, you said this:
'If you want result (high filtering), you don't want a horizontal. '

Did experience with these change your mind?

I'm not trying to slam you or discredit you.

I may be building one to incorporate on my soon 180 build.

I say that because a horizontal is self-limiting; the more growth, the more the water is blocked. For the same effort and less space you can do a vertical.
