Yes you need to drill a 1 3/4" hole for a 1" blukhead!

This is where I got my pumps from, about 3 more dollars. Aquarium pumps, pond Pumps,Rio, Eugene Danner, Supreme mag drive, Little Giant

Just remember Paul will pick your brain if you tell him you are using two pumps as a back up. Just tell him you have a 2400gph pump and he won't even go there. Will save a lot of time in your conversation on the phone.

He plans on draining some of the water out before he drills, he should be OK.

Okay guys, i finally got the pumps shipped, and im going to order the OM supersquirt. I spoke to paul from om, he wants me to do everything over the top, but im still gonna drill. He also said i should just have the pvc pipes going vertically in my tank open in the bottom, blowing the water towards the front glass, versus having holes drilled in the pvc blowing water all over the place. He also said i should use 3/4 inch pvc. Otty, any ideas??? Should i continue with the 1" idea and holes on the pvc. Or 1" pvc with an opening on the bottom blowing water through the rocks to the front glass? Or with the 3/4 idea?? Thank you. With the pumps in my hand, i should be drilling this weekend.

I would stay with 1" on the tubing but go ahead and run it how Paul said. If you reduce down to 3/4" you will be creating pressure you don't want. The inlet and outlet on the Little Giants are 1" plus the Super Squirt is the same so I would stay with 1" so you can have more flow. That way you are not restricting the inner diameter anywhere.
This way you can take some suggestions from me, Tangster, Paul and others and make your own custom system. There is plenty of ways to do it, just have some fun with it.
