Very interesting... seems like that would work. Does anyone else have any other advice?

From the looks of the drawniong... water would only be as high as the middle baffle, right?

Yeah the water would be as high as the middle baffle. I havent done this on my tank. like i said i would have done it to save the hassle of trying to figure out how to stop the water from crashing down 7" and making bubbles in the return area.

    Anybody else agree or disagree?

How ever high you decide on your baffles you need to put them in like this:

If you add them the other way, you will have nothing to keep your sand in where your fuge will be. It will start coming up your baffle area.

    Like this?

I actually think this would work...

Baffles on left have 1" spacing. Baffles on right have .5" space.

I just don't know if it's necessary to have the first baffle on the left...

good point otty. I have it the way you drew it but i dont like it like that because since i have alot of flow through my sump i get microbubble in the return section when the water crashes down. I dont have a problem with sand since i have my fuge in a seperate compartment.

I guess that would work, would check it with otty and the others though. It seems better than just having the water crashing down from 10" right on top of the return pump and having those bubbles going to your tank.

Let's get the better image up...

I would really like to know Otty's thoughts on something. Regarding how the water comes into the sump. Should I just make it a straight shot into the tank and have the PVC go in about 10" or so?

Basically, I'm asking cause I read this thread.

Not sure what you mean exactly... I've been thinking that a straight shot into the sump would be quietest. However, I could be wrong.

I've thought about this IDEA from MegaFlow...

Basically, we leave the inlet at 2". However, the live rock area is 2" wide and 8" deep. The other 4" in depth is so a pipe can come in and basically create that same effect.

It seems like a good idea to me. Anyone else?
