I wouldn't rely on this method.

Here is the third kind of mushroom propagation that's happened in my tank so far. First was complete cutting and removal from the rock, the second was cutting directly on the rock and letting the separation just happen, and Now the third, just plain old let in happen naturally. My Bulls eye has now split and I've got 2.

    Here's the original....

    And, Here's the afterwards....

    Enjoy....

I got rid of the green hairy stuff in the first pic a long time ago!

so is cutting a ricordia shroom as safe as cutting a regular shroom? I have one that I would love to split.

To be honest buddy I've wondered the same thing. They are soooo big that the thought is kind of intimidating... I wanted to let mine split on it's own first, then entertain the idea of force splitting. If you decide to go as far, please let me know how things turn out.

    Edit...
Oops, I was thinking you said Rhodactus, not Ricordia. I've been told they were a bit more sensitive, (the Ricordias) but TBH, mine did just fine. Just like any mushroom, be sure you get some of the mouth on the cut and it'll live for sure.
