What type of lighting are you using? Montis are light and flow dependant but, can survive in the lower recesses of your tank if you have MHs. But being that it's main source/secondary source (depends on the Monti) is filter feeding, I would place it in an area where it is getting good flow.

You be fine placing it anywhere within that tank then, as long as you have good flow around it.

Just lay it on the rock..But Monti caps like alota flow, so if you dont have alota flow on it, then its going to stay, but if you have it in alot of flow, then it might fall off the rock every now and then. So i would glue in down, or stick the dead piece on the side into a rock and glue it in there.

I would get some coral glue. You have it placed perfectly, well that is if you like how it looks there. just flip it over only exposing the underside to air then add a drop or two of coral gel based glue then attach those drops to the rock and whala your done and have nothing to worry about.
