I have a Hamilton tech 2-250w HQI 10000K& 2-96w PC 7000K 4' fixture. They call a protostar. It has the hammertone reflector on the top, with white on the sides. I was thinking about putting some mylar or mirrored plexiglass on the sides to increase the reflective light. Any thoughts? I was thinking that it might help reduce the shadow effect.

Hard to say. Best bet would be to try it and let us know how it worked! Not sure if the plexiglass would melt though? You may be able to put some polished aluminum in there to help it if the plexi trick does not work.

Don't think I would chance the melting plastic getting into the tank.

I agree I think that the Plexiglas would melt from the heat of the MH bulb I think that I would try some thin polished stainless steal sheeting ;)
