    The hand pumps clog very easily.

    I've seen the LFS use a method to start siphons without sucking, where they put the big piece of the gravel vac under water in the top tank, tilt up so the water flows down, put it under water again, and tilt up again to get it started. It's pretty pro. I'll see if I can get a vid of them doing it.
