JBJ K-2 Viper Deluxe 150W HQI Clamp on Lamp Lighting Fixture w/ 2 LEDs & Fan (Saltwater Aquarium Supplies > Lighting > Fixtures > Metal Halide > Clamp On )

I am thinking about buying a 150watt metal halide light for my 40 gallon reef tank.

my tank is about 24 inches deep...its a tall tank and i was wondering if these clamp on lights like the one above produce alot of heat? because if soo then my tank temperature is going to increase like crazy!

a chiller would not be an option for a 40 gallon tank...soo i was just wondering if one of these clamp on light fixtures would be an option for my tank?

That would be a good option with the addition of a room fan blowing across the top of your air/surface interface! Alot more economical than that of a chiller.

i thinking most are gonna tell u that 150 watts isnt enuf to penetrate 24 inches. The fan may not work good enuf to bring yer temp down either.

but the thing i do not understand is that... how do they make these 20 inch metal halide lights for nano tanks? like arn;t the lights going to drastically increase thier temp?

supposely they dun make chillers for low end tanks like my 40 gallon so i mean? how do people manage to get 20 inch metal halide lights for thier nanos?

I've been looking at the 150w Viper for my 24g nano, the nice thing is you don't have it 1" over the water like the HQI hood so it doesn't put all the heat directly on the water, even though it's not a bad idea to have some kind of fan blowing across the the surface to help with cooling some, worst case it can help increase the bulb life maybe, hell I don't know but it's usually not a bad idea from what everyone else has said :p

It also helps to have a cold beer in front of the fan helps cool stuff to, just make sure to cycle the beer for best production
