How do you swap these out without breaking the impeller?

I have the psk-200 with the 1st gen pump I believe, and I want to change the mesh wheel on the impeller inside the pump as it is starting to fray. The skimmer came with an extra one. I just don't know how to get it off the impeller.

edit: I just went to premium aquatics and they do not have my replacement :(

I used needle nose pliers for mine

edit: I just thought of this. Take small diameter string (fishing line or like) and wrap it around the shaft of the impeller right next to the pump face and behind the mesh wheel. After a few wraps, pull the line straight out from the impeller and it should pop right out without damage.

I can get it out of the pump. I am talking about replacing the mesh wheel on the impeller without breaking it. I feel like it's going to snap off when I tried to replace it.

I'm not sure actually. I wasn't totally sure what to call the parts. I was wanting to replace the mesh wheel since the black mesh inside is starting to tear and the skimmer came with an extra one so I figured I could replace it. I just have whatever came with the skimmer. It's working wonderfully after cleaning the pump in some vinegar though :)
