Ok, I know the majority of a mandarin’s diet is “pods”. I have a 55 gallon tank with creatures swarming the glass and rocks that are about as big as the period ending this sentence. Are these large enough to be food for a mandarin? IYO do you think that the mandarin would be sustained by this system?

    55 gallon tank
    Reef quality water
60 pounds of base rock (dry) that has sat in the tank for about a year and a half (added when the tank was first cycled)
11 pounds of “seed” live rock
    Bountiful growths of macro algae
    Thanks

I have a mandarin in my 55gal, no problem. I would just add more sand, as i have a DSB. Do you have a refugium? and if i didnt say it to you before......Welcome to 3reef!

Unfortunately my tank has no refuge or DBS. Do you have a Refuge on you 55? What size? BTW how do you manage to keep so many fish in your 55. Do you have problems with nutrient accumulation?
Thank for your fast reply aquaboy!

No loss, just a prospective buyer of Pterosynchriopus splendidus (mandarin). The tank has been set up for one and half years.

    sorry about that hehe ,
these fish can be very choosey as to taking food it can be quite stressful.Pods should be abit larger then . maybee more like * if you know what I mean haha.
Also it is quite common for people to feed live food to their mandrin such as live brine shrimp, Do you have a refguim as these can assist in the growth of pod collonie
great looking fish just try to buy a healthy specimen

No refugium for me either..... but im gonna set up a bucket refuge soon. I dont know how but i havent had a single ppm of nitrate since my initial cycle. only prob i have is phosphates from tap water :-/ (gettin RO/DI in like 3 weeks, maybe, if dad is nice :) )

But i do have a well groomed DSB (its like 3-4 inches, so maybe its a SSB?)
