That stinks when you hear something like that, and even more so when it is closer to home...
Hopefull they will be able to determine the cause of death and learn from it with future mammals at the aquarium!

    So Sorry about the loss

    HI,
I worked with a Lab in Va beach that actually did cultures on sick mamals that beached themselves, most it was found was due to a parasite in the inner ear it gives them sever vertigo and they become so dissoriented .
Another common problem was sever systemic infection, with more than one bacteria, many of the sea life rescue experts are wondering if maybe the ocean is causing a loss of imunnity due to polution, we have seen sick whales with bacteria in their blood and their milk this usally kills the cows and calfs and they become so sick they beach, many of the common pilot whales community ties are so strong they will beach the entire pod due to one sick animal.
Its a terriable thing theres has been rumors of a new stronger sonar being tested off the coast that can kill anything a small radius of its testing.
A super pulse of energy great for finding subs not so good for dolphins and whales..
