    You say struggling with low nitrates. You mean your nitrates are high? Do you feel that this is because of the rock?

    No, I mean I feed 3x-6x per day with rods and 2x per night with coral frenzy/reef roids to have any detectable nitrate. That is in my more than well stocked 29. I have the same rockin my 40, 6 fish in there fed 3x per day with undetectable nitrate. I do have a skimmer, but the skimmate drains back into the sump.

    The 29 has a deep sand bed, the 40 is bare bottom. The only common denominator is the tukani rock.
