It was something about the fact that fluorescent ballasts do a terrible job efficiency wise running LEDs.

Ironically in the Tube LED range the T8s are better than the T5S

T8s being a larger diameter means you can fit the driver onto the back of the heat sink
and fit everything in the tube
then all you need to do is remove ballast, starter and capacitor from the loop and run the LED T8 tube direct from mains

T5s being thinner diameter means there is no capacity to fit the driver into the tube, at present thus you have to run them from the existing ballast (just remove the starter) and this causes efficiency to drop

I was wondering the same thing, I tried contacting COD via PM and he never really got back to me on anything so the search began.

I have a ticket into the supplier now, I'll let you know how it turns out.

please let us know! I am also looking for a new lighting system and I would rather just get LEDs rather than waste my time on the MHs. But all the LEDs that I have found are usually way too pricey here. What size LED would be recommended for a 40 breeder?

Build the LED fixtures yourself. Far better and way cheaper. I built a 24 LED system for my 90 gallon FOWLR using cree XR-E leds for just under $300.. Jeff

Well I might consider doing that but I am just not sure how many watts I should be using for a 40 breeder. I have lots of zoos and palys, gsp, xenia, frogspawn, pipe organ, daisys, mushrooms, and ricordea. Its pretty much all softies so I don't want to burn them up with too much lighting...
