Kalkwasser is what it actually is and used in your top off shouldn't be a problem at all :) I'm actually considering doing the same.

What kind of ATO? A float switch?
I did kalk through a gravity fed float for several months at the end of last year.. it was messy - if I were to do it again I'd have the float over a high current area of sump. I had it in a mellow spot and the kalk built up a film on the top of the water that caked the float switch and required a lot of cleaning.

Before that float, I used a kalk reactor hooked up to a Tunze ATO. This was ok but I didn't like that it would dump a lot of kalkwasser at once sometimes depending on evaporation rate.

What I am about to start doing (again) is drip it through a Kent IV at night. I think will work best for me.

    Just my experience.
