To help with reducing or illuminating your tank of nuisance microalgae, look no further than these four key components:
    Light
    nutrients
    clean up crew
    water change

Your bulbs could be either new or too old and also may not be beneficial as far as to the kelvin/spectrum.
If you maintain a high nutrient level or it spikes, you run the risk of increasing the chances of microalgae growth and with out the right algae or limiting nutrients(decreased food, waste/detritus and efficient filtration algae will prosper.
clean up crews will ensure that your tank is maintained properly with the right amount and kinds of inverts and fish to keep your tank looking gorgeous.
Water changes are ideal and very important in that they replenish traces/buffers etc. lost through respiration, filtration etc. They also reduce the amount of waste and nutrient level and dissolved carbon dioxide levels in an aquarium.
That is it in a nut shell without getting to technical or lengthy at this point in time.
    Good luck

    hey hey hey welcome...

what kind of algae is it? pics help. things you are going to want to do if figure out your water paremters. lighting is also an important part. age of the tank can affect it too. how much you feed will put nutrients into the water giving more food for the algae. there is alot of different factors that cause and help algae breed. i would recomend doing a search on this forum because there is alot of info on here in regaurds to algae
