Discus are high high maintenance as far as I know. Talk about frequent water changes! Beautiful readily available fresh water fish however. pH issues as well. Not even sure if you can do many plants in those tanks. Guppies will breed and the males much like Bettas are beautiful!

I've heard discus are very hard to take care of as well. I vote cichlid!

I love African Cichilds but I've been there done that!
The Killie's have always intrigued me, I just never had the space due to the Cichilds :jester:

Discus aren't as hard to keep as you'd think. If you can keep a reef, you can keep discus, believe me lol.

I used to have a very heavily planted tank, with a dozen blue maze discus, and a school of a hundred cardinals (give or take ... some croaked for sure, but thats how many went in)

It had pressurized C02 and Eco-complete substrate, the plants were higher maintenance than the fish. Discus become quite hardy once they are acclimatized to the tank.

I vote discus, with a schooling complimentary fish, whether cardinals or rummynose tetras, plus it has to be planted lol!

A large school of Rummy Nose Tetras makes for a nice contrast in a planted tank. The red face with checkerboard tail really stands out against the green plants.

A school of twenty or so Tetras ( a couple varieties), mixed with a couple bottom dwellers.

My next tank is going to be a planted tank. I am going to have some freshwater puffers in there.
