ok so i have a penguin 350 filter. in the spot for another filter catrtridge there is a 2 inch by 6 inch gap that is 7inchs deep. would that be fine for a small fuge? is so then what type of platns coul i put in there to maximize nitrate reduction? i was thinking mangroves? is that good? two mangroves?

Yep go with mangroves. They don't need much room for there roots to suck nitrates out of your water.

You could use cheatomorphia. That's what I use. Don't forget the light. I use a simple clip on from Home Depot with a plant bulb.
