thats what i was getting at if a professional does it with proper equipment i wouldent worry about it
but tank size i think still plays a role to some extent

Well, a larger tank will be more likely to fail with good but not perfect worksmanship. Perfect workmanship means it is literally one perfect piece of acrylic, no different than if it came out of the factory in one piece instead of two.

As for learning it yourself, it's a giant PITA to learn. It's lots of practice, acrylic isn't exactly cheap, and you can't easily get the Weld-On you need at a local store.

I work with a small company and we have a nice 120 gallon tank but this project is mostly for remodeling aesthetics. I do have a few pints of Weld on 3 and 4 but so far all my seams are obviously joined acrylic pieces. I'll go out of business if I have to outsource everything :(

    is the 'trick'
    --more pressure pushing pieces together?
--pretreatment? (I am flame-polishing edges first)
--using the right number of weld on?
    --buffing?

    Thanks for any advice!

I have seen a 2000 gallon aquarium at my local lfs like that. While the seam is virtually invisible while looking in general, it definitely is noticable, there is optical distortion in the seal.

I can deal with a little optical distortion, but not a line.

Yeah I saw the hairline, but its SOMETHING to go on so I can try it myself with scrap acrylic. He's using epoxy, but perhaps if I used weld on with his taping method it could work.
