thanks all for your advice. I guess it makes sense that it is still in the cycling mode. i did add almost 75 gallons of fresh salt water to the existing 35....i am now looking for a RO unit, and as far as the cheato algae goes, can i put in the tank itself or does it need to go in the sump, and i listed my lights above is it enought o keep it alive?

Give them a browse when looking for a ro/di unit. Quality equipment, excellent service. It's WELL worth the extra few bucks to buy a quality setup.

Well, if you must put it in the display , that should be fine, but you will forever be picking out little pieces of chaeto ! LOL! I have mine in the sump but you need to light it there. Lights on the tank are fine;D

so i tested my tap water, no nitrates visible, luckyme..
and i tested my tank and the ntrates has dropped to 20 ppms.
I will do another water change this weekend...and see if that helps..

also with the RO unit. is that just for future water chages or does it hook into my tank and filter the existing water?

RO is for future water changes. You make freshwater from that (and they are slow), add salt, temp, aerate, and change water;)

I would do another water change if you can, maybe wednesday or thursday. 20 ppm is still kinda high. Shouldn't kill anything, but I think it's still in the stress zone. GL2Y

As far as calcium test kits go, which is preferred or most accurate. i see the test kits where you add drops until it turns blue, but i just want to get an accurate reading. any suggestions, also alk. which one is preferred?

I like the Seachem name brand .
Another good one I have heard about is the Salifert test.
