    Ok tank is up water in power heads moving water added salt. Well added one bag that is for 50 gallons not sure exact amount of water got the 200 gallon box no instructions. what is the mixture of salt per gallon Checked the salinity and it is 1.011 waiting till tomorrow and check again waiting to make sure all salt dissolved.

    Its about half a cup per gallon of water with Instant ocean I believe

    but you do right in adding less than you need to start with, leaving it a few hours and then adding a bit more

    one method that works for me using a floating needle coralife hydrometer (Yes I double check with Aquamedic refractometer)

    but the hydrometer I have found useful as follows

    I have 5 gallons of water in bucket with power head and heater
    I slowly pour in the salt mix and test frequently with the hydrometer

    when I get a reading of 1.018 - 1.019 I stop adding
    I let that mix for 24 hours and often find that once the salt has fully dissolved and the temp is correct - I am around 1.023- 1.024 and thus a handfull of salt is all thats needed to take it to my target of 1.025

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    The box says 1/2 cup per gallon for a sg of 1.023.
