    Starting and stopping a skimmer is a HUGE no no. For one, stagnent water with nutrients make hydrogen sulfide and two why would you want to continually cycle your skimmer, it'll never reach its peak if you do that.

    The main reson to do a reverse photo period it is to buffer the ph swing so, no, your incorrect. Yah a skimmer will add oxygen, so will a power head breaking the water surface, but there isn't an oxygen problem by not using a rpp. Non RPP is the norm. I don't use it any longer excepton my mangrove set-up and thats for limitting heat and here in California we had this thing called non peak hours were we pay less for electricity (only your left hand, not yout entire arm or 1st born). Heat is another reason to go with it if you having heat issues. In the winter it helps keep the tank warm.
