Hi. I just did the mod. On the cap, I drilled holes around the side. Is it better to also drill some in the bottom of the cap so water shoots not only to the sides, but also down?

    thanks,

    Mike

Hi, Mike! It will clog the holes and slow down the flow rather sooner.. I dont have the end cap any more: straight pipe! I was worried about back siphoning the pellets out of the reactor, turned out as long as the outlet is under water, there is no back siphon.

Thanks. Did you run the pipe longer or just take the cap off and use the same 9" pipe.

    thanks again.

Ive been using the same 9" PVC without any issue.

Thanks again. Great mod. After 6 weeks with only 1/2 a cup in the BRS biopellet cartridge, it slowed down. I took it out today to change to this mod and it was crudded up.

I took the cap off and flow is better but I do not think enough. I am running only a MJ1200 with around 1 cup of pellets. Reactor is same level as my sump but i do have the tubes running a little high.

Anyone else running 1 cup of pellets with only a MJ1200? Also, this is a 150 gallon FOWLR, total water volume around 135 gallons.

    thanks again.

    Mike

I did use two layers of the mesh an staggered a bit to make sure pellets do not go out. Maybe this is restricting flow too.

    Yeah, so a MJ1200 won't run a reactor.

I tried to use MJ utility pump to feed the reactor but not enough flow.. I have been using Mag3 and working great.
If the mesh is snuggly cut and fit enough, i dont think you need to double it. It will just limit the flow. Small thing makes a lot of difference.
