I made it better: BioPellet BRS reactor mod!

Yep, already read that. It just scares me because of all the bad experiences people have had. But I want to because of all the great exp people have had. Have you exp any negatives from them?

 

Yeah Shin has alot of invasive fast growing acros in his tanks.

I hear/read horror stories about BP every now and then. Bacterial bloom, bad cyano or just not enough etc. But if you go slow and keep a close eye on param, you should be good.

That would be me Some Japanese dude who loves the hobby and lives in MT.

 

I had around 1 cup of pellets working pretty good with a Mag 3. Today I decided to add another 1/2 cup so I am running around 1.5 cups (or 355ml). The Mag 3 was not tumbling much. I put the mag 5 on and it is better but still not the same tumble as the mag 3 with only 1 cup. I have no end cap on. I do not think the 3/4" pvc is clogged at all. When I pull the power from the pump, I see the pellets drop 1/2" to an 1" so they are suspended. Just not as much tumble as before.

Any ideas?

Ive noticed that the mesh disk gets clogged with some cr4p if you're not using the sponge pre filter on the mag. and of course you gotta clean the filter too.

 

Thanks. I will pull it put and check/clean the mesh disk. I am not using a prefilter. I have this mod reactor running for less than a month so far.

 

I just took it out and I cleaned the mesh. no gunk but some pellets stuck in it. I put it back and now I have to dial back the mag 5. I think the issue was the 3/4" pvc dropped a little and there was less room at the bottom of the reactor. When I took it out to clean, I made sure I pushed it all the way in. I think I can go back to the mag 3 now .
