Theres tons of ways to get rid of them, some methods of killing can cause them to release spores and populate the tank.Since it's a new set up and no coral around the area, the boiling water will not kill the whole rock,it will kill any spores that get released, and best of all,it's free :)

Always put a bamboo skewer or something that is microwave-safe into the cup prior to boiling (or use an old cup that is all scratched up). Superheated water can explode and scald you. The skewer or scratched up cup will provide nucleation sites so that the water will boil.

Good point Curt, and yes i've cracked a cup before and i've found microwave safe bowls work well also, and of coarse always use caution.
