solderless connectors are an awesome invention. its just the extra cost that deters me.

just make sure to use a screen to cover the LEDs to avoid spray shorting anything out. I am waiting for the LED spray to get back in stock.

Agreed...along with drilling and tapping the heatsinks. Having experience drilling and tapping these heatsinks, it is difficult to lay out LEDs evenly due to the fin placement, and little space between the fins. I have not tried the solderless connections, however. I do have a few LED builds that I soldered, and while it isn't the easiest thing, it is very doable. My only concern is the cost of DIY vs. manufactured now that lots of companies are buying into the LED market. I have priced numerous LED types...fixtures, PAR bulbs, and DIY, and they are all around the same for my build.

I lost you on that one can you explain what are you saying. The only thing I know is to buy the waterproof spray so you don't get corrosion do you need to cover the led's with anything else?

There are lots of routes to go.

RapidLED.com - DIY CREE LEDs, PAR 30/38 Lamps

    BoostLED.com - Mu135W Fixture, PAR 30 Lamps

Orphek - Unreal specs, new PR-25 coming soon

    Corals2Go.com - Carries Evolution Fixtures

    OCReef.com - Has a 20 CREE LED Dimmable Fixture

I know there are more...that's all I could think of (sponsor-wise) off the top of my head.

Do PLENTY of research...and don't be shy. Ask a lot of questions. For a very good DIY thread, check this one out:

I have yet to verify how effective the spray is on those connectors since there is allot of kholes where spray can get into. I am going to use a shield of glass.

Diy vs manufactured is going to be a difference of 1 watt leds vs 3 watt and a savings of 30% on average.

Not entirely accurate. Manufactured lights come in 1W, 2W, 3W, i've seen some 7W and 20W lights as well. PAR lamps are all coming in 2W, 3W designs.

Prices vary considerably depending on application. I don't think you could possibly average out savings on any projects.
