I was curious about these things too Scuba. Can you describe the water movement it creates? Does it make noise? Are there a lot of gears that could jam?

    Hey All,
We have been using the Hydor deflector for about 4 months on a couple MJ1200's. Simple plug-play onto the power head. It does decrease the flow of the power head maybe 20%. We are using them in a small softie tank so I wasn't really too concerned with the flow loss. It is silent. I havn't had to take it apart so I'm not sure of the gearing. Both units are getting good coralline growth so I was waiting for them to quit rotating before soaking in vinager.
For the money......13 bucks. I'd say they are a descent buy.
If you wanted to use them on an sps or higher flow tank? Save your $.

    Heh. Thanks guys.
If it's got gears, I'm staying clear.

I haven't looked inside it, got it on sale for $11. I will just run it till it stops, then take it apart. I will see if I can get a short vidio of it working.

i have 4 of these on my reef and i love them. 1 has stopped twice and thats because a very small snail found his way into the same flo 2 times. it was very easy to clean. when they get too much algae on them , i take them out a soak them in bleach.i have had them since august and i love them. we now sell them in our store and we have sold over 2 gross of them and have had 2 returned defective. they have replaced powerheads in my reef(no more ugly power heads)i have 2 on the main returns and 2 coming off of my chiller. i have also replaced the return on my nano cube with 1. great product.
