As I mentioned in my previous post, I set up an apex today. And something I didn't expect happened. I set alarm to text me when the tank reached 82 degrees in didn't quite happen with my previous but cheap thermometer. Well, a couple hours ago I receive such text, lights turned off by apex (kessil, not sure if even needed as it dosent put off much heat) and I'm wondering if my tank hitting 82.5 could be the cause of a lot of recent zoas. How warm is too warm? Do I need to get a chiller to keep tank under 80 degrees?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
In my opinion you've reached the higher limit. If you're have having issues with your corals I would try to keep it 78-80. Once I got to 82 I saw a mild but chronic decline in my corals.

Also does PH drop with heat? The higher the temp the lower my PH gets, currently 8.4

+1 you're reaching your limit, ESPECIALLY if it's fluctuating daily.

Your best bet is to run some fans blowing across the surface of the water, this can easily lower tank temp up to 6*.

Higher the temp the less dissolved O2 the lower the pH.

8.4 ph is pretty high. What does your tank normally run at?

Mine is hitting 83-84, never falling below 78. My corals have declined, but I attributed that to my "zeroing out" on phosphate in less than 24 hours. They went pale.

    Now I'm reconsidering.
