I guess my question would be... How long should I keep the carbon in? 4 days, 3 mos, indefinately (replacing with new carbon on occasion)?

The problem with carbon is that it's too good at removing desolved impurities from the water and it's not picky, it removes essential elements as well.
However I still like the polished look of carbon filtered water and in my opinion bi-weekly water changes will replace the trace elements that are removed.

    Wrassman,
Maybe you can help me with what to do with my 2213...
I've got a 29g, 2213 (w/shipping media), 2 powerheads, 28 lbs. LR, 1" LS, 2 clowns and a Coral Beauty. I think my bioload is relatively low for my tank (no plans to add any more fish) and I think my LS/LR is taking care of my bio filtration. I was considering taking the bio media out of my 2213 and just using it for mechanical filtration or simply for added current and extra water.

What weould you do with my setup in regards to the 2213?
