how to frag encrusting montipora?

    i like to know how to frag my corals even if i dont plan on it so if i need to i can. i just gota encrusting montipora so i was just wondering how i would frag it if need be. thanks and happy new year!

    just break a chunk off. Glue the bottom side of that chunk to a rock or frag plug. The monti will break fairly easily. Probably one of the easiest corals to frag.

    wow sounds easy. can i chisel a piece off or just snap it?

    If its a plating monti, just snap it off. Its easy enough. A dremel would be a little much for a monti. Maybe some harder sps, but monti just snaps right where you want it to and easily.

    -edit....inwall pointed out this is an encrusting monti. Dremel is probably the best approach.

    well the lfs thinks its encrusting but many on here have said in is plating? think i spelled that right. but im not so sure myself.

    Here is something I thought I would try. I took a small red monti frag and a purple rimmed green monti frag and glued them onto a plug to see if they will grow together. I have seen it done but wanted to try it myself. I want to try it with my yellow monti and a purple monti. I still need to aquire the purple monti though. Sorry the colors are not as bright as they really are due to the cheap digi camera that I have.

    min looks like it was taken from a shelf of rock. idk what kind exactly but when it settles in my tank im gonna frag it too.
