Just keep up on your husbandry and fish will live a long, long time. Their growth rates are dependent on how much they eat. I have three damsels in my tank. A humbug, a yellow tail and a yellow. The yellow is a pig. It eats ANYTHING. Even seaweed. The other two won't touch it when I put it on the clip and sink it. So now, it is a very big and very fat damsel. With attitude. The other two have not grown much at all, as I only feed my tank every three days or so.

Depending on the species of fish, it could be quite harmful to their health or just fine. There are some species that should be fed more than once per day. That's why it's so important to learn about what you put in your tank before you purchase it.

I got a 7" magnificent foxface fish. :) I was wondering the same thing when I purchased him from the LFS. Im hoping to at least get a good 5+ years out of him. All's going well as of now! *knock on wood*
