I have had my saltwater tank over a year now . Its a 75 gallon non drilled tank. Around mid jan. I added some water to my tank and went to bed . The next morning everything was dead. Ive been working on getting it straightened out since then. My nitrates were out the roof. Have done more than half a water change added salt to get that right again. But still cant get nitrates down have also put in new filteration and added some lava rock . Help me . Please . Kimberly.

What do you mean you added salt to get that right again? You mixed the salt in the display tank with the fish?

well first of all live sand only means that it has beneficial bacteria, and this depends on how established the tank is. buying live sand from the store is a rip off as regular sand once in the tank doesnt even make a difference. i think the last thing you should be worried about is the sand and more about researching more about this hobby so incidents like this dont happen again in the future

Lava rock is not good for saltwater, you need live or dry ocean rock.
Did you ever find out WHY the added water killed everything?
What was in the tank as far as rocks, fish, and corals?
Why are you adding salt directly to the tank? Is that what you did when you added water and everything died?

We need a lot more information.

were you just topping off or something? or doing a water change? if topping off then there was probably something else playing part. also with lava rock dont put that in your tank it will leech metals into the water
