Pure mountain water is full of runoff... not good for the tanks. I wouldn't even use water collected from the base of a melting glacier.... RO/DI will help solve a lot of the algae problems, I also suspect over feeding could be an issue when I feed small portions everyday with larger portions every other day.

yeah but even "pure" mountain water is gonna have a ton of minerals, metals, etc in it! better than most tap, but still!

Point taken (and I didn't know that, so thank you for the excellent info).....So either source of Tap is a no no. Still, I want to see it, so we can put hypotheses away and give you a solid answer. It's the best approach to your problem.

HAHA, see, all you northerners know about mountain water. ;D I have always considered mountain water "pure", and naturally filtered. (but it still tastes awesome!!!)

I stand by the water source and over feeding as the source of the problem ;).

good quality municipal drinking water is AWEFUL reef tank water! It's loaded with stuff! I'd really suggest looking into a RODI unit or gettting RODI water from a LFS! I think you'll be surprised how quick it helps!
