have you seen the lights with the RGB LED's like lumenaqua, they will let you adjust the color temperature manually.

No, I haven't. I can only imagine that they're approximately 3 to 4 times the cost of other LEDs though.

Exactly. You need 3 LEDs for an adjustable color unit, just like the other, cheaper ones not used for fish tanks. That's serious bucks to spend, and won't be popular until well after the adoption of LEDs as standard lighting.

That's why I was saying T5 would be a supplement. It's still the easiest, and cheapest, way to do color adjustment, and will be for a while.

T-5's are efficient, but when you're replacing 8 bulbs every six months ... you make up for all the money you saved on your electric bill pretty quick.

I find t-5's to be very pricy bulbs when you want a good name ... and since you need 8 of them to compete with your halides ... the costs offset eachother.

You'd have to figure over the course of 5 years, t-5's vs Halides with bulbs replaced every 6 months on the nose ... the cost would be pretty close when adding up purchase price, electricity to run for 5 years, plus the cost of bulb replacement.

Not to steal away from the post... but I want to show what is capable with these LEDs from rapidLED. I paid $120 for all of this:
    controllable driver

    LEDs (at 80%)
and a few options i set for manual control (outside of the 24 hour system i wrote) on the Reef Angel

LEDs are the future and their possibilities are amazing! lets make this transition a little faster ;)
