Hey they are snails, how bad can they be! ;D

Seriously, you should be fine. Unlike some crabs that will chomp on corals, I don't see a problem with snails.

They should stick to a diet of algae and detritus.

What shape are the snails?  Are they a cone shape and white, or typical snail shape with some type of pattern on them?  If you give me a better description, I can most likely tell you what you've got.  Like Matt said, most snails are cool, a few of what you don't want are: flat snails with sundial pattern (eats zooanthids), all white rice size cone shape (eats clams and other snails) and most with a snorkels are bad (most, not all, many good snails for our DSB have snorkels).
