    Hi All,

A couple weeks ago, I noticed two green mushrooms I have shrinking considerable and appearing to be eaten away leaving some kind of curly, spaghetting like filamentous stuff.

Yesterday I noticed my metallic green torch had a small ball of the same stuff near the mouth on one of the heads. Today it looks like it has expanded into the mouth/insides of this head.

I found a photo online of a torch that has the same stuff on it.

What is it? What can I do about it?

    Thanks much!

Looks like mesenterial filaments to me. It's part of a corals natural defense system so something might be irritating your coral if it's spitting those filments out.

The photo made some reference to "worms", but I have not been able to get any confirmation/identification of this.

Mesenterial filaments? Would they look the same on a torch as on a mushroom? When it appeared on my torch, it presented as a small ball about 3/16" in diameter about 1/4" away from the mouth on one of the heads.

At first I thought it might have broken off the mushrooms and landed there.

If indeed this is cause by an irritation, what should look for as to a cause/remedy.

Mesenterial filaments pretty much all look the same to me but I'm not an expert :) What corals are near or around the torch? Could be a reaction to chemical warfare in the water column. Do you run carbon?

I am not sure what you consider near, but within 6-8 inches:

Small Rose BTA (she was recently injured) ?!?
    SunPolyps

    Star Polyps
    Kenya Branch

And and open brain about 12" away.

I have not been running carbon for a month or so.

Sorry reef-guru. I do not see your doctored photo.
