I have seen this thing living in one of my rocks for almost a year now, and it has decided to move out and about. Does anyone know what it is and if it is reef safe. Recently added a bunch of things and don't want to loose any of it. Thanks.....

Yes it is reef safe. Im sure if you look real close there are more of them than just the one. I have lots of them in my tank all over the rock.

It is about the size of a half dollar. It is now moving ALL OVER my tank...mostly moving along the glass. I was just really surprised that after all this time, this thing is out and running around....weird!! I have some really small starfish that I got from a guy when I picked up some frags not that long ago, but this guy has come out of nowhere....my girls think it is the coolest thing.

I have one of those too. Have just seen it eat algae. It's about the same size as yours. When I first saw it I was surprised to see a 4-legged starfish. I always thought they had more.

I couldn't find the lionfishden.com, doesn't exist. From all the other things I have searched, it does seem to be an asterina from what I have read. I am not sure though....need to do more looking. It does look like what is shown on the page linked to below....which if it is asterina, then I need to get it out according to this site (says it will eat corals and coralline algae)!

    Need more help!!

It looks like asterina to me too.
I had those and I used to pull them out when I saw them. I am pretty sure mine was munching on my montipora. Not enough to kill it, but it did iritate it.
